Symposium 1

High-pressure chemistry: theory and experiment

In the last several years it has been proven that unusual chemical compounds, often defying traditional chemical rules (e.g., Na3Cl), become stable. Some of these possess extraordinary properties (e.g. highest-Tc superconductor known so far, H3S, which was first predicted and then synthesized). This field develops at a very fast pace, and we want to bring together leading experts from both theory and experiment for the update on the latest discoveries.

Topics to be covered by the symposium:
 - Novel compounds appearing under pressure,
 - High-Tc hydride superconductors,
 - Crystal structure prediction,
 - Chemical reactions
